Intertidal foraminifera from Miramar-Caranzalem Shoreline, Goa

Title: Intertidal foraminifera from Miramar-Caranzalem Shoreline, Goa
Authors: Setty, M G Anantha Padmanabha; Birajdar, Shankar M; Nigam, Rajiv
Abstract: Quantitative analysis of foraminifera (entire and broken) revealed that Rotalina, composed of 29 species, constituted 95.18% while Miliolina, composed of 11 species, and Textulariina, with 5 species were poorly represented. Temperature, salinity and tidal effect during monsoon and nonmonsoonal periods had a profound effect on productivity and quality of preservation.

Fluoride content of certain marine algae and seawater from Saurashtra Coast

Title: Fluoride content of certain marine algae and seawater from Saurashtra Coast
Authors: Rao, Ch Kesa Va; Indusekhar, V K
Abstract: Fluoride content has been estimated in 28 marine algal species and seawater. Red algae comparatively have more fluoride than brown and green algae. Fluoride content in seawater is 1.29-1.33 mg.l-1. Of the green algae, collected from Porbandar Reef, Gujarat, India, Caulerpa scalpelliformis and Ulva lactuca show an increase and Codium dwarkense a decrease in the fluoride content with increasing age of the plant.

Fatty acid content of some Indian marine algae

Title: Fatty acid content of some Indian marine algae
Authors: Parekh, K S; Parekh, H H; Rao, P S
Abstract: Fatty acid content Enteromorpha intestinalis, Caulerpa taxifolia, Gelidella acerosa, Gracilaria corticata and Padina gymnospora was estimated by colorimetric and GLC methods. Palmitic acid was found to be the major fatty acid present in these algae.

Relative toxicity of oil dispersants to Mytilus viridis and Macrobrachium idella

Title: Relative toxicity of oil dispersants to Mytilus viridis and Macrobrachium idella
Authors: D'silva, C; Row, A
Abstract: There was a great variation in the relative toxicity of different oil dispersants. Dispersant IB 2/80 was most toxic and dispersant IB 11/80 was not lethal at the highest concentration tested. The ranking order of the emulsions (oil dispersant) was almost identical for both the species tested, although there was a significant shift in the range of LC50 values, indicating that one species is less sensitive than the other. Oil dispersant mixtures were less toxic than the dispersants alone.
