Title: Morphometry of the Dugong Dugon (Muller, 1776) skeleton based on Indian Museum specimens, Kolkata, India
Authors: Kumar, J. S. Yogesh; Kamalakannan, M.; Venkatraman, C.
Abstract: The present study discussed about detailed examination of skeleton characters of four dugong specimens received from Indian Museum. The specimens were deposited and preserved in the National Zoological Collection (ZSI/27608; ZSI/27609; ZSI/27610; ZSI/27611) of The Mammal and Osteological Section, Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata.

Title: Induced breeding of Cresent Perch, Terapon jarbua under controlled conditions
Authors: Sethi, S.N.; Kumar, Prem; Thiagarajan, G.; Kailasm, M.
Abstract: Crescent Perch, Terapon jarbua is an important candidate species for brackish water ornamental and food fishes. This fish inhabits brackish water of much of the tropical and sub-tropical Indo-Pacific region on sandy bottom including estuaries. During December 2014, a fully matured female with average egg diameter of 450 μ along with two oozing males were selected for induced spawning trials. Fishes were induced to spawn with Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, HCG hormone @300 IU/kg body weight and Luteinising Hormone Releasing Hormone analogue, LHRHa @ 75 µg/kg body weight; half the hormone dose was administered to male fishes. After 36 h of post-injection, all sets were spawned (fertilized egg mean size: 720 µ± 34.96 µ); the eggs were semi-buoyant in nature, Hatching was noticed after 16-18 h of incubation period. Average size of hatchlings was 2.04 mm ± 0.05 with the yolk sac length of 75 µ and presence of a single oil globule. A total of 3 lakh newly hatched larvae from four sets were collected and used for standardization of nursery rearing protocol. The larvae were reared for 60 days feeding with rotifers and artemia nauplii which then reached the fry size of 30 mm with 20% of survival rate.

Title: Stock assessment and exploitation status of Lethrinus nebulosus (Lacepede, 1802) exploited off Thoothukudi coast, Tamil Nadu, India
Authors: Vasantharajan, M.; Jawahar, P.; Sundaramoorthy, B.; Ramyalakshmi, P.
Abstract: Lethrinus nebulosus (Lacepede, 1802), although a commercially important fish species, has not been studied (population studies) in Thoothukudi coast of Tamil Nadu, India. Research on recruitment pattern, virtual population analysis and exploitation status of L. nebulosus off Thoothukudi coast was conducted from July 2011 to June 2012. During the study period, 4590 specimens of L. nebulosus were collected for studying the above said parameters by using FiSAT software. Recruitment pattern of the species expressed continuously with one peak each in April and August. The fishing pressure occurred more in the length group of 43 cm onwards. The results revealed that the total annual catch of 7566.28 tonnes was obtained from 52210 boat days. The maximum catch per unit was during December and January. The maximum sustainable yield (MSY) was estimated at 12203.68 tonnes. The discrepancy between MSY and annual catch was 4664.399. The present fishing effort may be increased to 61.29% to achieve MSY with 19310 boat days. It was revealed that L. nebulosus is underexploited in this region.

Title: Asterinid seastars (Echinodermata: Asteroidea) from the Gulf of Oman, Iran
Authors: Attaran-Fariman, Gilan; Panahloo, Nasrin
Abstract: Field surveys in the rocky south-east coast of Iran and northern part of the Gulf of Oman were conducted during a period from October 2014 to March 2015. The Asterinid seastars Patiriella paradoxa (Campbell and Rowe), Aquilonastra watersi (O’Loughlin and Rowe) and Aquilonastra iranica (Mortensen) are reported for the first time from the Iranian coast. The morphological taxonomy and the ecology of these asteroids are discussed in this work.
