Title: Social Trust in Emerging Technologies: The Challenge to Incorporate Fundamentally Different Perspectives in Public Engagement
Authors: Garcia-Guerrero En, Miguel; Foladori, Guillermo
Abstract: The social construction of emerging science and technology systems requires extensive dialogue between diverse stakeholders, each with historically-diverse scientific, political and historical points of view. Public-engagement in debates about novel technologies has received substantial coverage within science communication studies but the origin of opposing positions regarding controversial science and technology developments has received little coverage. This work uses the juxtaposition between scientific and historical origins as a tool to explain the roots of different perceptions of emerging technologies in various sectors, with nanotechnologies as an empirical example.

Science and Technology Information in the Digital Age: Some Thoughts from a Global Perspective

Title: Science and Technology Information in the Digital Age: Some Thoughts from a Global Perspective
Authors: Purkayastha, Kanan
Abstract: The goals of science and technology information (STI) have not changed since the early days of ideas and practices embraced by the term ‘documentation’, yet the way they are pursued has changed. This is because the world is being transformed by technological changes dominated by digital age. This means that the digital technology is changing the relationship between science and society. It brings with it huge opportunities for the UK, but also significant risks.
This paper identifies and discusses some preconditions for harnessing STI in the digital age and a digital agenda for the UK. The paper considers hard infrastructure, soft infrastructure, cyber risk management and ethical issues from global perspective. The paper argues that open science could make science more effective and speed the translation of research findings into innovation and socio-economic benefits, but this shift requires adjustments to policy.
The paper also reviews the outcome from recent digital age summit in the UK and paints a picture of communicating science in the digital age. A final section presents some observations from the European Commission about access, dissemination and preservation on scientific information in the digital age.

Development of Semantic Web Based Collaborative Framework for Innovative Science Communication Paradigm

Title: Development of Semantic Web Based Collaborative Framework for Innovative Science Communication Paradigm
Authors: Kumar, Anand
Abstract: In scientific research paradigm, scientists and researchers are working on a common or distinct research topic in different research institutions, organizations and universities but due to communication gap most of them do not collaborate their findings for better outcomes. The outcomes are also not properly communicated to the target masses with their full semantics. So, a collaborative framework is needed that will focus on collaboration and group the processes i.e. cooperation, communication, coordination and coproduction within research communities. There is a need to develop a collaborative framework especially for scientific research communities in which people will communicate with each other and provide the upgraded and authenticated information in their research stream.

In this paper, the notion of Semantic Web enabled generic framework is proposed to foster collaboration to bring the scientific researches on a common platform and minimize the communication gap between research communities. This will be helpful to scientists, researchers and academicians of research institutes, organizations and universities.

A Route to a Better Tomorrow: The Power of Science Fiction

Title: A Route to a Better Tomorrow: The Power of Science Fiction
Authors: Dubey, Rishabh
Abstract: The known in collaboration with the prevalent helps explore the variations of problems and helps derive the best possible solution from amongst the comprehensible ability of mankind. Nevertheless, this perception of the problem as well as the projected solution might not be the best-isolated pair if observed from a neutral window of infinite possibilities. The unknown, therefore, holds answers which must be explored. This paper attempts to elaborate the significance of investigating the Unknown or the Fictitious in the real world, considering examples, exemplars and prospects.
