      <description>Title: Effects of a multi route (oral and nasal) application of Lasunadya Ghrita (An ayurvedic formulation) in cases of primary depression: Inferences from a non randomized open label clinical trial

Abstract: Mental diseases are rising globally. Depression is one among the most common mental disorders with an alarmingly high&#xD;
incidence in India. Mental health care in general is suboptimal in India on account of inadequate resources and lack of&#xD;
awareness. Pluralistic health care delivery model of India including its traditional health care services is less explored in&#xD;
case of mental health for its possibility of adding value to the net mental health care delivery. The objective of the study was&#xD;
to explore the efficacy of an ayurvedic formulation Lasunadya Ghrita (LG) in a multimodal application form in cases of&#xD;
depression and to compare its efficacy with conventional care composed of Escitalopram, Etizolam and Zolpidem (EEZ)&#xD;
provided in an allopathic psychiatric health care setting. Total 52 patients of depression allocated non randomly to Ayurveda&#xD;
LG group and to Allopathy EEZ group were followed up for 4 weeks and evaluated on the basis of HAM-D and SF-36 mean&#xD;
score changes of the participants on a pre and post basis and also for their intergroup comparisons. Statistically significant&#xD;
changes in mean HAM-D and SF-36 Score were observed in a pre-post comparison in both the groups. An intergroup&#xD;
comparison was non- significant for majority of HAM-D domains, barring a few showing the comparable effects of two&#xD;
treatment approaches. Ayurvedic treatment was effective in work and energy domain and gastrointestinal symptoms.&#xD;
Pre and post mean changes in HAM-D and SF-36 Score in two groups have shown significant changes in both the groups&#xD;
suggestive of their individual efficacy. Insignificant difference in most domain scores of HAM-D and SF-36 in an inter&#xD;
group comparison was suggestive of comparable efficacy of LG multi route application with EEZ allopathy care.

Abstract: The novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is an ongoing viral infection and currently, limited vaccines with no post-market safety data or repurposed drugs are available to combat this contagious viral disease. Kabasura Kudineer, an official polyherbal Siddha medicine containing numerous herbal ingredients, is being practiced primarily in southern parts of India in the management of COVID-19 pandemic for boosting the respiratory system and treating fever with flu-like symptoms. The present study is carried out to scientifically validate the traditional claim and to confirm identity, quality and purity of marketed Kabasura Kudineer polyherbal formulations in India. Kabasura Kudineer Chooranam manufactured by two different manufacturers was procured from New Delhi, India. The physicochemical characterization of the samples was carried out in accordance with the standards laid down by Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) 2018. HPTLC profiling of key ingredients including Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Pippali (Piper longum), Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica) and Lavang (Syzygium aromaticum) were also carried out in accordance with IP 2018 monographs. The chromatographic analysis showed the presence of all major ingredients in both the marketed preparations and all the physicochemical properties were also found comparable among preparations. Our findings may enhance the global acceptance of Siddha medicines practiced widely in India and also used for laying down the pharmacopoeial standards of Kabasura Kudineer Chooranam.

      <title>Hypothetical model for explaining yoga mediated modulation of pathways implicated in obesity</title>

      <description>Title: Hypothetical model for explaining yoga mediated modulation of pathways implicated in obesity
Authors: Chobe, Meenakshi P; M N, Ramesh; Chobe, Shivaji V
Abstract: Obesity is a state of energy imbalance characterized by inflammation, dysregulated autonomic nervous&#xD;
system function, altered brown adipose tissue activity, basal metabolic rate alterations, and changes at the&#xD;
psychological level. Adipose tissue is not only a metabolic organ but also an endocrine organ. Adipokines&#xD;
released by the fat cells play an important role in regulating the local metabolic processes and maintaining the&#xD;
homeostasis between food intake and energy balance. The most common pro-inflammatory cytokines involved&#xD;
are TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1, leptin, adiponectin, resistin, visfatin, irisin, which are involved in the pathophysiology of&#xD;
obesity. Yoga as lifestyle-based intervention influences the adipokine levels, autonomic nervous system&#xD;
functioning, brown adipose tissue activity, basal metabolic rate, and stress levels in the body. With this, yoga&#xD;
can help bring back the energy balance and weight management in obese individuals.

      <title>A randomized controlled clinical study to evaluate efficacy and safety of a topical Unani formulation in the management of Nār Fārsī (Eczema)</title>
      <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/57889</link>
      <description>Title: A randomized controlled clinical study to evaluate efficacy and safety of a topical Unani formulation in the management of Nār Fārsī (Eczema)
Authors: Alam, K; Nawab, M; Kazmi, M H
Abstract: Nar Farsi (Eczema) is a very common skin inflammatory disorder. Its prevalence varies according to age groups and country&#xD;
to country. The Unani system of medicine offers its successful management. In this study, efficacy and safety of a topical&#xD;
Unani formulation was assessed and compared with a standard drug. A prospective, non inferiority, randomized, active&#xD;
controlled and parallel group study was designed to study 60 participants of eczema (30 participants in each group).&#xD;
The Unani formulation Marham Safeda Kafoori was studied as a test drug for 6 weeks versus allopathic medicine Clobetasol&#xD;
Propionate in the study. The study findings suggested that the Unani formulation was non inferior to Clobetasol Propionate&#xD;
in terms of percentage of reduction in itching, oozing, exudation, erythema, lichenification and cracking at 6 weeks of&#xD;
treatment. It was observed that the difference of the mean±SD of SASSAD Score was measured as 12.83±4.76 and&#xD;
14.13±5.27 in test and control groups respectively. The result was analysed as per protocol and it was found that the efficacy&#xD;
of the Unani formulation was statistically significant (p&lt;0.001). This study concluded that the Unani formulation was safe&#xD;
and effective in the treatment of eczema.
