Decolorization of textile dyes by Aspergillus tamarii, mixed fungal culture and Penicillium purpurogenum

Title: Decolorization of textile dyes by Aspergillus tamarii, mixed fungal culture and Penicillium purpurogenum
Authors: Ramalingam; Saraswathy, N; Shanmugapriya, S; Shakthipriyadarshini, S; Sadasivam, S; Shanmugaprakash, M
Abstract: This study describes degradation ability of Aspergillus tamarii, mixed fungal culture (Trichoderma sp., and A. flavus) and Penicillium purpurogenum on various synthetic dyes. A. tamarii decolorized (> 90%) of coomassie brilliant blue (CBB), bromophenol blue (BPB), and malachite green (MG) dyes. Mixed fungal culture decolorized: CBB, 74; BPB, 78; and MG, 45%. P. purpurogenum decolorized: CBB, 91; BPB, 92; and MG, 52%. Dye decolorization was achieved by metabolism rather than by adsorption. Isolated fungal strains could effectively be used in development of alternative and eco-friendly method for removal and degradation of textile dyes.

Fertigation potential of domestic wastewater for tree plantations

Title: Fertigation potential of domestic wastewater for tree plantations
Authors: Vasudevan, Padma; Thapliyal, Alka; Srivastava, R K; Pandey, Asha; Dastidar, M.G.; Davies, Philip
Abstract: This study analyses feasibility of using domestic wastewater for fertigation of tree crops. Wastewater samples from different sources in domestic sector were analyzed and evaluated in terms of water quality and quantity. Water is rich in plant nutrients. However, due to possible presence of toxic ions and microbial load, it is recommended that direct use of wastewater for fertigation be limited to timber plantation and energy generation from biomass.

Aeromechanical evaluation of large HAWT’s blades

Title: Aeromechanical evaluation of large HAWT’s blades
Authors: Lain, S; Quintero, B; López, Y U
Abstract: This paper presents aeromechanical evaluation of a blade (length, 50 m) of horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT). Aerodynamic module combines three-dimensional non-linear lifting surface theory approach and a two-dimensional panel method for steady axisymmetric flow. It provides effective incident velocity and angle of attack at each blade section and 3D pressure distribution on blade as an input data for finite element analysis (FEA) package. FEA provides deformations, strains and stress distributions along blade and material induced fatigue. Degradation linear accumulation model was used in fatigue study under one million cycles of loading. Calculated accumulated damage was found below critical value.

Spectrophotometric determination of Fe(III) via complexation with piroxicam in synthetic mixture and soil samples

Title: Spectrophotometric determination of Fe(III) via complexation with piroxicam in synthetic mixture and soil samples
Authors: Lutfullah; Sharma, Saurabh; Rahman, Nafisur; Azmi, Syed Najmul Hejaz; Hidaifi, Hanan Juma Said Al; AlQasmi, Masha’El Mansoor Abdulrahman
Abstract: A simple and selective spectrophotometric method has been described for determination of Fe(III) in synthetic mixture and soil samples. Method is based on chelation of ferric ion with piroxicam to produce at RT a coloured metal complex, which absorbs maximally at 495 nm. Beer’s law is obeyed (conc., 2.79-25.13 mg ml-1) with apparent molar absorptivity (5.88 × 103 l mol-1cm-1) and Sandell’s sensitivity ( 0.019 mg/cm2/ 0.001 absorbance unit). Proposed method was successfully applied in determination of Fe(III) in synthetic mixture and soil samples.
