| Abstract: | Esterase activity of various populations of Spodoptera litura, collected from cotton fields of different regions of Tamil Nadu, was compared using a- and f3-naphthyl acetate as substrates for enzyme reaction. Among the ten populations analyzed, five populations showed elevated activities for esterases. The RAPD-PCR analysis of resistant and susceptible populations revealed the existence of polymorphism. Specific amplification for esterase gene using custom made primers produced amplified product in resistant populations. |
