| Abstract: | Fatty acid binding protein (FADP) is an attractive vaccine candidate and a drug target for controlling fasciolosis caused by Fasciola gigantica in ruminants. The cDNA encoding F. gigantica FADP was amplified by polymerase chain reaction and expressed in Escherichia coli as a recombinant protein using a prokaryotic expression system. The protein was purified to homogeneity by nickel chelating affinity chromatography and subsequently by ion-exchange chromatography. The recombinant protein thus obtained will be assessed for immuno-prophylaxis and for its immunodiagnostic potential in ruminants agaiust F. gigantica. |
