Abstract: Ayurveda accomplishes the balanced state of vata, pitta, kapha, rajas and tamas to maintain psychosomatic health. Due emphasis is given on Manasika bhava such as priti, harsha, krodha, lobha, irshya, etc. which can be classified as positive and negative emotions. These Manasika bhavas or psychic traits are also described as Manasika vikara when go beyond the physiological range. Chittodvega one of such psychic disorders, described in classics is well comparable to Generalized Anxiety Disorder–DSM IV. In survey study of 60 patients of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), significant symptomatic disturbance in mental health has been observed.   These patients divided in two groups were treated with Kushmandadi Ghrita Rasayana (Benincasa hispida, Glycyrrhiza glabra, cow’s ghee) and placebo control for four weeks. The trial drug has shown significant improvement on various clinical parameters related to GAD, since ingredients of this formulation have proven anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, nootropic activities. Kushmandadi Ghrita has provided significant relief on Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Brief Psychiatry Rating Scale and Manasa bhava Pariksha.
