| Abstract: | The genetic diversity in 106 glutinous rice landraces of Assam, India, was analyzed using SSR markers. The apparent amylose content (AAC) in Chokuwa (12.24%) was higher than Bora (0.145%) genotypes. The SSR markers showed high level of polymorphism ranging from 80 to 100%. A total of 181 alleles were detected at the 37 simple sequence repeat (SSR) loci. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 13, with an average of 4.9. The polymorphism information content (PIC) values varied from 0.452 to 0.817, with an average of 0.716. The size range between the smallest and the largest allele for a given microsatellite locus varied between 100 to 700 bp. The SSR markers RM252, RM241 and RM206 had higher number of alleles and higher PIC values. Dendrogram revealed two major clusters at 24% similarity with further sub-clusters. The results indicate that there is scope for exploiting the genetic diversity and it will help breeders for selection of parents to develop high yielding variety and to tag gene for special traits. |
