| Abstract: | Increased concentration of ozone in atmosphere is harmful for human health. Non-methane hydrocarbons are ozone precursor. Effect of nonmethane hydrocarbons in atmosphere and sources of emission have been discussed in this research paper. According to survey of government and non-government institutes, Delhi is the region of excessive emission of methane hydrocarbons. According to experimental results of central Road Research Institute, New Delhi the concentration level of non-methane hydrocarbons in traffic, residential, industrial, power plant and back ground is 0.1 to 0.9 ppb. Concentration of butane, propane, ethane and acetylene is 0.987 ppb, 0.965 ppb, 0.897 ppb, 0.756 ppb in June and 0.856 ppb, 0.932 ppb, 0.786 ppb, 0.798 ppb in September serially in traffic region. Results of comparative studies conclude that concentration of non-methane hydrocarbons in environment depends upon environmental factors and maximum concentration of nonmethane hydrocarbons is highest in the traffic region. |
