Abstract: Manganese(III) schiff base complexes of the type [Mn (SB)]X ( where, SB is derived from 4-benzoyl and 4-acetyl substituted 1- phenyl -3-methyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one and triethylenetetramine and X= CIO4- , NCS- or NO3) have been prepared and their physicochemical properties studied. They behave as monoelectrolytes in solution, indicating non=coordinating nature of the anions. Their magnetic moments are close to 4.9 B.M. indicating spin-free type nature of the complexes and absence of any kind of exchange interaction. Infrared spectral data suggest that secondary amino groups of the ligands also coordinate to the metal atom, making the ligands hexa-coordinating. All the complexes are electrochemically inactive, indicating their high stability. On the basis of analytical and physical data, tetragonally distorted octahedral structure is suggested for all the complexes.
