Synthesis, magnetic and spectral studies of Co(II) picrate complexes with heterocyclic nitrogen donors

Abstract

<span style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:="" en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">New mixed-ligand picrate complexes of cobalt(II), formed by interaction of cobalt(II) picrate with 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABZT), 2-(2'-aminophenyl) benzothiazole (2 '-AMPHBZT) , 2-(3'aminophenyl) benzothiazole(3'-AMPHBZT), bipyridyl(Bipy), <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">o</i><i><span style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial;mso-fareast-font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">- </span></i><span style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;="" mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">phenonthroline (Phen ), and 2 ,6- bis(benzimidazole-2'-yl) pyridine(BBZLY) are described. The complexes have been characterised by elemental analyses, molar conductances, magnetic and decomposition temperature measurements, electron spin resonance, infrared and electronic spectral studies. They have the composition [Co(PA)₂(L-L)₂], where L - L= ABZT, 2'-AMPHBZT, 3'AMPHBZT, Bipy, Phen or BBZLY. A <i><span style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial;mso-fareast-font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">trans </span></i><span style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:="" en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">octahedral structure has been tentatively proposed for these complexes.</span></span></span>
