Abstract: Biatractylolide, a unique bisesquiterpenoid has been obtained from the Chinese herb plant Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz, []D20 + 256° (c. 0.02,CHCI3). The single crystal belongs to space group PZ1Z1Z1 with a = 10.972 A, b = 23.377 A. c = 9.840A. The unit of cell contains four molecules. The structure has been solved by direct methodsand refined by least-squares method. Final R factor has been found to be 0.045. Prilimary assay of bioactivity shows that biatractylolide, as atractylolide, has the activity of releasing guinea pig ileum.
