| Abstract: | The condensation of 3-acetylcoumarins 1a-c with aromatic al-dehydes 2a-b gives coumarin chalcones 3a-f, which upon reaction with various aroyl methyl pyridinium bromides 4a-d in acetic acid in the presence of ammonium acetate give 3-(2- pyridyl)coumarins 5a-x. |
