Irradiation of 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives 1a-j results in the aromatization of ring and formation of pyridine derivatives 2a-f and 3. Oxygen plays an important role in the rate or failure of oxidation. In the cases of 1e-j, oxidation of ring with expulsion of the 4- substituent and formation of 3 has been observed.en_US
