The paper presents work on modelling and designing intelligent devices such as sensors, used in industrial automation and control applications. Intelligence within devices has been defined in terms of self-diagnostics. In order to implement self-diagnostic features in devices , they must be modelled with respect to external and internal parameters. Once modelled, appropriate schemes and methods can be implemented for diagnostics. Model-based spectrum analysis schemes have been used for diagnosis of sensor anomalies. IBM compatible PC, LON-based fieldbus system, Matlab and Visual Basic tools were used as the realizing platform for evaluation.en_US
