| Abstract: | Despite the development of a large scientific manpower base in the field of plant tissue culture (PTC) in India over the past few decades commercialisation came very late. The main reason for this slow development has been the lack of policies which would propagate the concept. It has been only since 1991 onwards that micro propagation through tissue culture has been considered as an industrial activity under the I (DNR) Act 1951l, according to the liberalised licensing policy announced by the government. However, for further development of the industry, additional targeted policies as also ‘‘climate measures’’ are required to be developed. A study of these factors and analyses of the market reactions, as indicated by the Indian PTC industry, was thus essential to our ongoing study2,3 and is presented in this paper. |
