Growth pattern of Bacillus thuringiensis var kenyae and its active protein formation during fermentation was studied and established at shake- flasks level. The process was further optimized at pilot plant-scale using geometrically similar fermentors of gradually increasing volumetric capacities. Comparable biomass yields and protein production were obtained at pilot-scale in shorter durations by optimizing the aeration and agitation rates in the fermentors, on the basis of constant ‘equivalent- KLa’ criterion, to meet the required mass and oxygen transfer rates in the system.en_US
