The copper (II) complexes of the Schiff bases, N-α-acetophenyl-X-salicylaldimines (α = 4 or 3, X = H, 5-Br or 3-COOH) have been synthesised and characterised by UV-visible, IR, MS, ESR spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The solid state structure of Cu(SACPNx)2 (I) determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals a distorted square-planar metal coordination involving two imine N- and two deprotonated phenolate O atoms of two bidentate Schiff ligands in trans- arrangement. Both the Schiff bases and their copper (II) complexes undergo facile transamination reactions.en_US
