Abstract: Densities and viscosities of ternary liquid mixtures of ethane- 1, 2-diol with some polar (acetone and methyl ethyl ketone) and non-polar(benzene, toluene, carbon tetrachloride) solvents have been measured as a function of the composition at a constant temperature 298.15 K. From the density and viscosity data the excess thermodynamic properties, viz., the excess molar volume (VE), the excess viscosity(ηE) and the excess Gibbs free energy of activation of flow (ΔG≠E), have been calculated. On the basis of the values of excess thermodynamic properties and that of the parameter d (in Grunberg and Nissan equation) the results have been discussed in regard to the nature and strength of molecular interactions between the mixing components.
