| Abstract: | The kinetics of condensation of aryl isothiocyanates with aryl amines in non-aqueous medium have been investigated. The condensation reaction is first order each in [amines] and [isothiocynates]. The effect of substituents on the rate of condensation and the thermodynamic parameters are evaluated. The reaction products have been isolated and characterized as asymmetric thiocarbamides and a probable mechanism of the condensation proposed. |
