The complex tributyltin 4-pyridinecarboxylate has been synthesized by the reaction of tributyltin chloride with sodium 4- pyridinecarboxylate in benzene and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analyses, MS and X-ray structural analyses. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c, with a=9.6673 (14), b=23.845 (4), c=9.7071 (14) Å; β=112.463 (3)°; V=2067.9(5) Å3 , Z=4, Dc= 1.324 Mg m-3, μ=1.242 mm-1, F(000)=848, R1=0.0544, WR2=0.1411. In the crystals, the tin atoms are rendered five- coordinate in a trigonal bipyramidal structure by coordinating with 4-pyridinylearboxlate group. The resulting structure is a linear polymer containing Sn-O and Sn-N bonds whose lengths are 2.170 (5) Å and 2.60 (2) Å, respectively. en_US
