| Abstract: | Some significant developments of the past decade in the production of monomers and fibre-forming polymers have been reviewed with particular reference to nylon 6, poly(ethylene terephthalate), polyacrylonitrile and polypropylene. A brief reference is also made to the roles played by additives and other ingredients. Some developments which have led to better understanding of the effect of reaction parameters on process design and polymer properties have been briefly described. In cases where no significant developments have taken place, the established process of manufacture is briefly described. |
