Abstract: Some important structural and morphological aspects of crystals in polymeric fibres and their influence on the mechanical, thermal and optical properties of the crystal and the fibre are considered. These include the role of molecular architecture, crystal defects, nature of crystal-amorphous coupling, crystal content , crystal size and crystal orientation on the stiffness, strength, melting point, thermal expansion, birefringence, etc. Of the crystal and the fibre. Some important aspects of crystal formation are also discussed . The emphasis throughout is on poly(ethylene terephthalate) fibres.
