Abstract: The effects of sheath yarn twist, number of spindles and plait density on breaking strength, breaking extension and mass of cored and core less nylon cordages have been studied. Difference in properties of cored and coreless cordages, translation efficiency of yarn strength to cordage strength and the effect of dyeing on resultant properties of cordages have also been studied. It is observed that sheath yam twist, number of spindles and plait density influence the resultant properties considerably. Structural stability of the cordages is also found to be influenced significantly by number of spindles and plait density. Dyeing of cordages in slack condition results in a substantial change in plait density, mass, breaking strength and breaking extension.
