The effect of discharge treatments such as low-temperature plasma treatment, atmospheric low temperature plasma treatment and sputter-etching on the surface characteristics of different textile fibres and polymeric materials has been investigated. The plasma treatment causes mainly chemical modification and increases wetting and adhesion, whereas sputter-etching produces a number of protrusions on the surface and leads to increase in adhesion and decrease in light reflection, thereby increasing the depth of shade considerably.en_US
