| Abstract: | Static and kinetic friction of some woven fabrics have been studied using different contact surfaces on the Instron tester with the help of a friction attachment. It is observed that air-jet texturing of weft yarns increases the frictional resistance of fabrics. The nature of the contact surfaces during the sliding action affects the frictional resistance considerably. Fabric-to-metal friction is less sensitive to the morphology and type of fabric. Variation of mesh size in monofilament fabrics affects the frictional resistance of these fabrics. |
