dc.description.abstractMesta is commonly grown in every farmer’s field either as a subsidiary vegetable crop or as a hedge crop or on bunds as wind breakers. The effect of stage of harvesting, method of steeping and the type of retting on the yield of fibre was studied. Fully matured stalks, steeped for four days vertically and 10 days horizontally along with Sunhemp stalks was found to be one of the best methods of retting with respect to yield of the fibre.en_US
