Abstract: Zinc(II)bis(oxalato)cobaltate(II)pentahydrate, Zn[Co(C2O4)2].5H2O, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectral, reflectance and X-ray powder diffraction studies. Thermal decomposition studies (TG, DTG and DTA) in air show that at ca. 1000°C, generation of a mixture of ZnO and CoO is attributed through the formation of zinc cobalt oxide, ZnCo2O4 at 420°C. DSC study in nitrogen upto 600°C show the endothermic decomposition and a mixture of zinc oxide and cobalt oxide is formed at the end.
