Abstract: Theoretical aspects of homogeneous mediated electrocatalysis have been studied and applied to the catalytic electroreduction of dissolved Fe(III) at a carbon based electrode in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The electrocatalytic reduction of Fe(III) has been studied by cyclic voltammetry and the kinetic constant of the rate-determining step, i.e., the reaction between Fe(II) and hydrogen peroxide has been determined. The second order rate constant obtained (k 'f = 70 M-1s-1) is in agreement with literature data at the dropping mercury electrode.
