Abstract: A new thermally stable phase of hybrid inorgano-organic material has been synthesized by anchoring organic moiety, acrylamide tin(IV) phosphate and characterized by IR, TGA, DTA and XRD studies in addition to its ion-exchange studies such as determination of ion-exchange capacity, elution, pH titration and distribution behaviour. The distribution behaviour towards several metal ions in different media/concentration have also been studied and the material is found to be highly selective for Hg(II). Some binary separations of the metal ions have been performed on a column of this material. The X-ray studies reveal the amorphous nature of the material.
