Excess molar volumes and viscosities have been measured as a function of mole fraction at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure for binary mixtures of polyethers + pyrrolidin-2-one. The polyethers are ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (monoglyme), CH3(OC2H4)OCH3, diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (diglyme), CH3(OC2H4)OCH3, triethylene glycol dimethylether (triglyme), CH3(OC2H4)OCH3, and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (tetraglyme), CH3(OC2H4)OCH3. In all mixtures, the excess molar volumes are negative over the whole mole fraction range. The minimum values of excess molar volumes decrease in the order: triglyme > tetraglyme > diglyme > monoglyme. From the experimental data, deviations in the viscosity have been calculated. The results are discussed in terms of dipole-dipole interactions between glyme and pyrrolidin-2-one. These interactions are more important in the case of lower glymes.en_US
