| Abstract: | Linear viscous stability analysis of compressible, non-homentropic mixing layers subject to exothermic and endothermic processes is the main focus of this study. The inviscid, non-isentropic, non-homentropic analysis made earlier, showed that exothermic processes exhibit higher growth rates than those for endothermic processes and the similar trends are observed in the present viscous case. However, the present results indicate contrasting trends when compared with the isentropic results obtained earlier by other researchers. Growth rates are damped by about 10% for the viscous case when compared with those for inviscid results. Parasitic errors are found to be less than 5%, when growth rates for Reynolds number of 105 are compared with the inviscid results. Inviscid growth rates are used as an initial guess for the viscous problem. Convective instability behaviour of the flow is observed from normalised maximum growth rates. |
