N1-(1-naphthyl)acetamide and N1-(l-naphthyl)benzamide react with the dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate 4 in the presence of triphenylphosphine to give the corresponding substituted highly stabilized ylides 7. Isolated yields in the one-pot preparation of compounds 7 are fairly good. The structures of compounds 7a,b have been confirmed by UV, IR, MS and 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The NMR spectra indicate that the solutions of compounds 7 (CDCl3 as solvent) contain three rotamers with unequal population.en_US
