| Abstract: | Treatment of diaryl diselenides 1 with cerium trichloride and metallic samarium in tetrah ydrofuran conveniently gives samarium aryl selenolates, the "living" species which react with acid chlorides and acid anhydrides to afford selenoesters 2 in good yields under mild and neutral conditions. |
