Abstract: Eleven new ferrocenyl Schiff bases containing benzene rings and C=N in a conjugating chain have been synthesized by facile method and characterized by 1HNMR, IR , elemental analysis, and FAB-MS. The cyclic voltammetry and electronic absorption spectral data indicate that these compounds have the abilities of electron transfer. Kurtz powder SH determination has been carried out to examine the nonlinear optical responses. The SHG signals vary from 13 to 190 times that of urea reference. One of the compounds with SHG powder efficiency at 1097 nm fundament al is as large as 190 times that of a urea reference standard. The heteroatom nitrogen in conjugation chain will improve the electronic effect, promote the electron transfer and increase the SH value.
