| dc.description.abstract | The mathematical model on erosion of brittle materials suggested the critical and threshold values of flow rate of air suspended particles. The effect of particle flow rate on erosion rate of brittle materials, subjected to high velocity impacting particle jet is differentiated in three zones, viz., threshold, sub-critical and stable zones. The findings, that the erosion rate does not increase simply with the increase in particle flow rate, have been substantiated experimentally. The erosion or brittle materials can be minimized either by reducing the flow rate or by reducing the particle velocity. The findings are applicable to both threshold as well as sub-critical zones. The particle velocity also plays a significant role in extending the stable zone. The paper also identifies a comparative significance of particle velocity in impact erosion process. | en_US |
