The diesters 3 and 4 prepared by o-alkylations of 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol and 2,2' dihydroxybiphenyl with ethyl chloroacetate and the 1,3-diester of calix[4]arene undergo aminolysis with diethylenetriamine and 3,3'-diaminodipropylamine to provide dioxadiamide-amine based macrocycles. Amongst these macrocycles calix[4]arene based macrocycle 10 shows moderate selectivity towards Pb2+ over alkali and alkaline earth metal cations.en_US
