| Abstract: | The synthesis of a variety of spirodiones 7,12 related to fredericamycin A 1 has been reported. The preparation of DielsA-lder adducts employing the nonfunctionalised and functionalised isobenzofurans 13, 14 as dienes and spirodiones 7, 12 as dienophiles has been described. The subsequent acid induced rearrangement of Diels-Alder adducts 15, 17, 19, 21 leads to the formation of spiro compounds 16, 18, 20, 22 related to fredericamycin A. |
