| Abstract: | The effects of fabric weight, thickness and air permeability on water vapour transfer through nylon and cotton fabrics, have been studied using two different methods, namely vapour method and sweat method. The effect of pretreatment like scouring and post-treatment like water-repellent finishing on water vapour transfer has also been studied. It is observed that air permeability and fabric thickness do not significantly affect the water vapour transfer through the fabrics. The effect of scouring, wetting agent treatment and water-repellent finish is not significant in case of vapour method. However, the water-repellent finish reduces the water vapour transfer significantly in sweat method. The results suggests that a skin fitting unfinished fabric would ward off much more sweat than its loose garment, whether made out of unfinished or finished fabric. |
