| Abstract: | An efficient and convenient procedure involving microwave and ultrasound conditions for the synthesis of 5,5-disubstituted hydantoins is reported. The combined use of microwave and ultrasound reduces the reaction time significantly. In the presence of potassium cyanide and ammonium carbonate, the acetyl ester bond is hydrolysed under both ultrasonic and reflux conditions. |
