dc.description.abstractDiamond coatings, by virtue of their excellent properties, are expected to play a significant positive role in our lives. This review briefly covers the methods used for their preparation and characterization. A few typical applications of the diamond films are considered and explained. Status of the field, both in the international and national context, is elaborated with the contributions from the author's laboratory receiving a rather detailed description. Our perceptions regarding the future trends in the field are also described. en_US
