Polymer films are finding many applications like microfilters for gas separation, water purification and blood filtration, etc. The effect of irradiation of 85 MeV O+6 ions on polycarbonate, Teflon and Mylar films characterized by Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS) is reported here. The PALS is a non-destructive, non-interfering probe, which has high detection efficiency for vacancy and free/open volume defects. The positron lifetime study shows 7-20% increase in free volume size. en_US
