Abstract: Cotton fabric has been bleached with tetraacetyl ethylenediamine (TAED) activated sodium perborate by varying sodium perborate concentration, TAED concentration and temperature. The effect of these process parameters on the quality of the bleached cotton has been studied and compared with the conventionally bleached cotton. Improved whiteness with minimum fibre damage can be obtained by activated sodium perborate bleaching at lower temperature and for shorter exposure duration. The process is found to reduce energy cost and effluent load on environment.
