| Abstract: | The influence of ply twist and twist direction on the properties of viscose jet-spun yarns has been studied. It is observed that the tenacity, breaking extension and unevenness of viscose jet-spun yarns substantially improve after plying. The improvement in yarn properties depends upon feed ratio, second jet pressure, and level and direction of ply twist. Z-ply yarns are more rigid than S-ply yarns. The flexural rigidity of Z-ply yarns consistently decreases as the ply twist factor increases. On the other hand, S-ply yarns twisted with higher twist factor are less rigid than the corresponding single yarns and the rigidity of plied yarns further decreases with the decrease in both feed ratio and second jet pressure. |
