Abstract: Conductance measurements of N-bromo, N-sodio p-toluene sulphonamide (Bromamine-T, BAT) in water (H2O), acetonitrile (CH3CN) and dimethylformamide (DMF), and in various mixtures of these solvents have been carried out at 283, 293, 303 and 313K. Conductance data have been analysed by different conductivity models. Limiting molar conductance, dissociation/association constants, product of limiting conductance and viscosity of the solvent (Walden product), thermodynamic parameters and limiting ionic conductance have been systematically computed. Limiting molar conductance values are higher in CH3CN or H2O + CH3CN mixtures as compared to H2O, DMF or H2O + DMF mixtures. Preferential solvation of cation by non-aqueous solvent has been identified. The association process involved in the system is found to be exothermic in nature.
