Abstract: Composite solid electrolyte having composition 0.3 KCl : 0.7 ZrO2 (mol%) which is highly conducting in the system(1-x) KCl : x ZrO2 has been prepared following the conventional ceramic powder processing route. The temperature dependent conductivity (σ) and mobility (μ) have been studied using complex impedance spectroscopy and transient ionic current techniques respectively. The noticeable conductivity enhancement is found to take place from 300oC at which the σ was μ S/m. The conductivity at 500oC up to which the measurements are taken is 1120 μ S/m. The increase in the ionic mobility in the temperature range 300 to 460oC is found to be nominal. The temperature dependent carrier concentrations(n) as estimated from the temperature dependent σ and μ data has been found to increase from 7.24×1017 m-3 (at300oC) to 9.70×1019 m-3 (at 460oC). This study indicates that the ionic conductivity is predominantly governed by mobile ion concentration.
