Abstract: The study deals with dyes from petrol, fake petrol, green petrol or patrex and adulteration of these fuels with blue kerosene. A High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) study of above fuels indicates the difference in dye properties compared to that of genuine petrol. Also dye from blue kerosene was detected in few petrol samples and patrex samples, indicating adulteration of blue kerosene in above fuels. In addition to dye study, other tests like density and distillation characteristics for petrol, Raxon, SBP and green petrol have also been studied.
