A series of 2-arylidenimino-5-( N4-methyl-Nl-piperazinylmethyl)-1 ,3,4-thiadiazole, 4, have been synthesized via condensation of 2-amino -5-(N4-methyl-N1-piperazinylmethyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole with various carbonyl compounds. Cycloaddition of chloroacetyl chlorride to 4 gives 1-[5'-(N4- methyl-N1-piperazinylmethyl)-1', 3', 4'-thiadiazole-2'-yl]-4-substituted-3-chloro-2-azetidinones, 5. Compounds 4 and 5 have been screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities.en_US
