Abstract: A bioactive biopolymer 1 has been isolated from the chloroform extract of leaves of Ficus pomifera Wall. which is crystallized at low temperature. The structure of 1 has been identified by using UV, IR, Mass, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, two dimensional NMR and COSY. It has been found to exist as two pairs of enantiomers which are evident from its UV, Powder-XRD and RP-HPLC data. The enantiomers are separated by chiral-HPLC and majority negative isomer is confirmed with polarimeter. The compound shows antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity against all five species of bacteria, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Salmonella paratyphi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and antifungal activity against Aspergillus flavus. Absolute configuration of a monomer model has been generated by TDDFT calculation.
